Promoting

Your Site

Search-engine ranking is one of our most frequently-asked questions.  This section provides you with some examples of how you can increase traffic to your website.  While there is no "magic bullet" to increasing traffic, some of the following topics are very important.

Remember, some search engines may take up to 3 months to index your content!

Promoting Your Site:
a Roadmap

1: Describe Your Content
Search engines rely on certain tags to describe your website's content.  Many search engines will not accurately index your website pages if you do not properly include tags.  All website pages should uniquely include the following tags, describing each page:
  • Make use of the Title tag to describe pages to search-users
  • Use the Keywords Meta tag to capture search traffic
  • Use the Description Meta tag to inform users and search engines about the page

Below is an example of how your page might look:

<TITLE>Logistics Logic

<META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="Logistics Logic, Charlotte, NC,
web hosting,remote-application hosting"
>

<META NAME="description" CONTENT="We Offer Small Business Web Hosting,

Remote Application Hosting, Logistics (WMS/FMS/TRAVEL-BOOKING) and
Website Design Services for Travel, Transportation and Warehousing">

2: Announce to the Search Engines
When adding your site / URL to search engines, be sure to check whether your site / URL has already been added.  Adding your URL to search engines improperly (abuse) can result in complete exclusion from their search results altogether.

3. Update Frequently
When your content remains the same, search engines typically rank your pages with less significance.  Basically, the more up-to-date your content is, the better your chances of being "first in the search-list".

4. Link to Your Site
Encourage vendors, friends and others to link with your website.  Search engines often guage the importance of your site by the number of sites recommending yours.

Beware of services which guarantee rankings in the "top 10".  Due to the proprietary nature of how search engines index content, "guaranteeing" success is extremely difficult.  When developing content, you should always be aware of your target visitors, remember the relevance of topics they may search for, and use the above information to manage your website accordingly.  Additionally, keep in mind that other methods exist for targeting visitors and driving traffic (Google Adwords, for example).
